ATM TECHNOLOGY

The inevitable migration to ATM is no surprise since ATM has a number of advantages over other technologies. For one, ATM can run at speeds ranging from 51 Mbps to 1.2 Gbps. ATM can better support multimedia traffic because it is based on fixed-sized 53-byte cells and can accommodate both connectionless and connection-oriented traffic. StrataCom is a pioneer in the development of frame relay technology, which bundles data into "packets" and sends them through phone lines. StrataCom's FastPacket networking systems have an estimated 65% share of the frame relay networking market.
